Discounts & Promos
Once the base price is set, the waterfall reduces it through a series of discounts, in order. The first two are automatic (Discount Schedules); the last two are the rep’s lever and the deal’s promo.
Volume discounts
A volume discount is a Discount Schedule keyed on quantity: the more units, the bigger the discount. The schedule’s tiers, its Slab vs. Range behavior (whole-quantity vs. tax-bracket), its percent or amount unit, and its aggregation scope (Line / Group / Quote) all come from how it was authored. For MDQ lines, the dimension’s Discount Aggregation decides whether the whole ramp earns one tier or each segment its own.
Term discounts
A term discount is the same Discount Schedule mechanism keyed on duration instead of quantity — a longer commitment earns a bigger discount. It applies right after the volume discount.
Manual discounts
The rep’s own lever: the per-line Additional Discount, applied as a percent and then an amount. It’s the discount a rep types on the line in the configurator — and the one approvals most often gate. It applies on top of the automatic schedules.
Promo codes
A promo code attached to the deal applies its discount in the waterfall. A promo only applies inside its effective-date window (and any other conditions on the code) — outside that window it’s inert. The code and its discount are resolved at pricing time, so a rep doesn’t enter the amount by hand.
